I am thinking that we need something more diplomatic and neutral between the developers of different projects, perhaps an organization that can be an ambassador for these technologies, perhaps coordinating with projects to make certain functionality available.
Because right now, the developers have the most influence, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think we also need more influence from the user base as well. Each developer has their own vision, which is great, since that creates innovation, but the users want stuff to work together, and that takes coordination and user advocacy.
