Idea: Two Domains or Subdomains for one Hubzilla Installation
I have been trying to think about ways to distinguish official accounts (that the website operates) and user accounts. This is important if a company or non-profit organization hosts an instance and is using Hubzilla to power its community. There should be no confusion over who is staff and who is a member.
This potential solution just popped into my head. What if we could assign more than one domain or subdomain to an instance, and use a CNAME to point the second domain or subdomain? Hubzilla would process incoming requests for both domains or subdomains.
Official channels approved by administrators of the website would get the main domain channel@example.com
, but members would get an account with channel@members.example.com
instead.
For SEO purposes and ease of use, all HTML pages would redirect to the main domain (i.e. members.example.com/hq would redirect example.com/hq). But the messaging protocols would listen on both domains or subdomains.
This is just a random idea at this point, and I might get around to making it one day, but I wanted to write down the idea before I forgot it.
Would something like this be useful to others?
